Five-Spice Powder or Chinese Five Spice Powder.
Five-spice powder, 5 spice powder, five-flavoured powder or
five-fragrance spice powder is a mixture of star anise, Szechuan
peppercorns, fennel, cloves and cinnamon.
A good blend is pun-gent, fragrant, spicy and slightly sweet
at the same time. Comes in a jar or pack.
With all the pepper, it does not taste spicy or hot. It just
give a nice flavour to the meat when fried.
When buying make sure the stock is fresh, it these is no smell
it properly old stock. But if it seal, look for the expiry date.
If it near to expiry date don't buy. Ask for new stock.
Used in stew,braise,stir fry and deep fry. Mainly used to marinate
food before cooking.
It keeps indefinitely in a well-sealed jar.
